| Mexico
has some of the most mountainous terrain in the world.
In the early 1500s when Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortez was
asked to describe Mexico, he is said to have crumpled up a piece
of paper and set it on the table.
Today's Google Earth offers
the modern equivalent to the crumpled piece of paper. For those
whose interests are piqued by Mexico's volcanic peaks and seismic
underbelly, there are numerous options to explore mountaineering
in this country.
Most of the country's volcanoes are situated within the 950-kilometer
Trans-Mexican Volcanic belt (Eje Neovolcanico) that runs east to
west across the country and includes Mexico's four highest peaks
-- Pico de Orizaba, Popocatepetl, Iztaccihuatl and the Nevado de
Toluca volcano.
