is developing recommendations for government websites wishing
to make effective use of Web
2.0 in engaging locals
and visitors interested in ecotourism and responsible travel.
Tips for government portals are featured in a Slideshare
presentation which profiles inspiring examples from Australia,
Ireland, Laos, the Mekong, New Zealand, South Africa and the
USA.
Governments continue to learn how to present responsible travel
and ecotourism to their own travel providers and to the world.
The idea behind the value chain is that there are number of
stakeholders
involved and governments play a key role.
We've often talked about the virtuous circle and there's no
doubt that the virtuous circle begins with virtuous government.
When the government can be of assistance rather than an obstacle,
there are much better opportunities for ecotourism and responsible
travel to flourish.
BIG PICTURE
Toward the creation of broader constituencies in favor of ecotourism
and responsible tourism, we suggest that governments:
1) Create informative, content-rich websites with timely and
accurate information, including direct links to local operations.
2) Participate in conversations with locals
and visitors via Web
2.0 and face-to-face meetings.
