January 30-February 5, 2011
A group of friends in Oaxaca, Mexico are designing the 2011
Responsible Tourism Fair, Planeta.com's 11th event since
2001 and a veritable model of frugality and slow travel. From
January 30-Feburary 5 the event takes place in multiple locations
in Oaxaca City and surrounding towns. Visitors had a number
of options, including weaver-guided walks in Teotitlán
del Valle, photosafaris in public parks and authentic indigenous
meals. Self-guided treasure hunts asks foodies to try various
cheeses, chocolates and mezcal.

The dates are set for the next Responsible
Tourism Week: February 14-18, 2011. Responsible Tourism
Week is a wonderful mash-up connecting responsible tourism,
the local travel movement, evolving ecotourism and the like
with practical and inexpensive Web 2.0 technologies. This online
unconference is an excellent way to broaden and deepen our dialogue.

and the City
of Cape Town to focus on responsible tourism in cities.
Our May 2011 workshop brought together leaders in local government,
sustainable tourism and social media, focusing on a practical
set of issues - conservation and tourism in cities. |
