Fundación En Vía – envia.org – is a non-profit organization that works to empower women to better support themselves and their families. Funds generated through responsible tourism provide interest-free loans and educational programs to entrepreneurial women in seven communities in the Tlacolula Valley of Oaxaca, Mexico.
Fundación En Vía, which means “on the path,” was born out a desire to fight poverty by addressing two problems Oaxacan residents face: interest rates charged on credit, and the narrow impact of the tourism dollar. En Vía’s tours are an incredible way for people to gain an insider’s view of life in Oaxaca, learn about different artisanal trades and traditional foods, and support the local community. At En Vía, the microloans are more than just money for borrowers; they facilitate social change and cross-cultural exchange by re-directing tourism to the communities that need it most.
