Designing Equitable Foundations for Open Knowledge

Poster

Announcement: The theme for the 2018 International Open Access Week (October 22-28) is “designing equitable foundations for open knowledge.”

Examples please of open access policies and practices and how they are implemented by governments, funders, universities, publishers, and scholars.

Hashtags: #OAweek, #OpenAccessWeek

SPARC: This year’s theme reflects a scholarly system in transition. While governments, funders, universities, publishers, and scholars are increasingly adopting open policies and practices, how these are actually implemented is still in flux.

As open becomes the default, all stakeholders must be intentional about designing these new, open systems to ensure that they are inclusive, equitable, and truly serve the needs of a diverse global community. This year’s Open Access Week invites all interested stakeholders to participate in advancing this important work.

Translations of this announcement are available in Chinese, Hindi, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Planeta.com is creating an inventory of open access resources and policy particular to conservation and tourism. We would like to know what policies are in place and what the outputs have been in the past year. We will spotlight good examples and, if there is interest, host livestreaming conversations and web tours showing open access in practice.

SPARC
The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC), is a global coalition committed to making Open the default for research and education. SPARC empowers people to solve big problems and make new discoveries through the adoption of policies and practices that advance Open Access, Open Data, and Open Education. Website: sparcopen.org
