Peru will receive delegations from 15 countries who will meet in Cusco between September 25 and 27 to establish commitments for the promotion, safeguarding, use and development of native languages ​​at the regional level. It will be within the framework of the Regional Congress of Indigenous Languages ​​for Latin America and the Caribbean, an event convened by the Ministry of Culture of Peru and the Working Group for the International Year of Indigenous Languages; and in which international experts and experts on languages ​​will also participate to discuss their experiences at the thematic tables and workshops.

This space includes the following thematic axes:
1. Public policies and linguistic rights
2. Revitalization and recovery of endangered indigenous languages
3. Intangible Heritage and Indigenous Languages
4. Intercultural Education and Intercultural Bilingual Education
5. Access to information in indigenous languages
6. New technologies for the development, learning and dissemination of indigenous languages

The Congress is jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education, the National Institute of Radio and Television of Peru (IRTP), UNESCO, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Regional Center for Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Latin America (CRESPIAL) and the indigenous organizations of national representation that form the GTPI that make up the Working Group for the International Year of Indigenous Languages. It should be remembered that the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages ​​(AILI 2019) in order to draw attention to the serious loss of native languages ​​and the pressing need to conserve, revitalize, promote and adopt new urgent measures at national and international level.
