Senegal is located in the westernmost part of the African continent. It is bordered to the West by the Atlantic Ocean, to the North by Mauritania, to the East by Mali and to the South by Bissau Guinea, the Republic of Guinea and the Republic of The Gambia.
Senegal also borders The Gambia, a country occupying a narrow sliver of land along the banks of the Gambia River, which separates Senegal’s southern region of Casamance from the rest of the country. Senegal’s economic and political capital is Dakar.
Wolof is the most widely spoken national language. Others include Pular, Soninka, Sereer, Mandinka and Diola. French is the official language used in Administration and Business. English is widely spoken.
