Mount Taranaki (2,518 meters / 8,261 feet) is an active but quiescent stratovolcano in the Taranaki region on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island. It is also known as Mount Egmont.

Taranaki is the North Island’s second highest peak or as Kiwis say, a challenging day tramp.

Nearby towns are Stratford and New Plymouth.
