Wikipedia: Lake Texcoco (Spanish: Lago de Texcoco) was a natural lake within the “Anahuac” or Valley of Mexico. Lake Texcoco is best known as where the Aztecs built the city of Tenochtitlan, which was located on an island within the lake. After the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, efforts to control flooding by the Spanish led to most of the lake being drained. The entire lake basin is now almost completely occupied by Mexico City.

Once again, the lake of Texcoco, millennial, which refuses to die, resisted; the same one that is on the National Coat of Arms won the one that probably was the definitive fight. The Letter of the Lake of Texcoco, “a poetic-political exercise that has the intention of extending the resonance of the experience of the peoples that defend the territory of the Lake Texcoco basin” is a must-read. The cancellation of the airport is undoubtedly a victory of extreme importance for the socio-environmental struggles of the country. After all that has been said, do not be confused: canceling the airport in Texcoco represents a historic success; the serious mistake was to begin its construction.
