Completed in 1976, the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall on the campus of UNLV, is a fine example of the International Style of architecture. Designed by local architect James B. McDaniel, who also designed the “Flash Cubes” medical buildings on Maryland Parkway, kept with modernist principles of simple horizontal lines, geometric shapes, unadorned surfaces, non-structural I-beam mullions, and anodized bronze exterior framework. The structure exudes the aesthetic that was popularized by Bauhaus architect Mies van der Rohe. The concert hall, including it’s more brutalist companion the Judy Bailey Theatre (1972) and the “Flashlight” (1981) sculpture by renowned international artists Coosje van Bruggen and Claes Oldenburg make up the perfect trifecta of the cultural arts in Las Vegas of the 1970’s. #lasvegas #vegas #artemushamconcerthall #hamhall #performingarts #unlv #unlvmusic #unlvfinearts #unlvperformance #vegasart #vegasculture #vegasmusic #artsandculture #judybayleytheatre #flashlght #claesoldenburg #coosjevanbruggen #bauhaus #bauhauscentenary #fabulousstorytours #lvpaco
