Victoria is located in the southeastern corner of Australia and has a total area (land + sea) of 237,629 km², which is about 3% of Australia’s total area. In this relatively small state mammal, bird, and reptile fauna are rich and diverse.

Victoria is home to Australia’s best birdwatching site – the Western Treatment Plant at Werribee – as voted by BirdLife Australia members.
